Two-tailed Water Dragon |
|
The Clarence Valley is noted for many oddities, but it now has another, thanks to Tania Gardoll and Paul Jones --- a two-tailed water dragon. They were called to rescue a water dragon trapped in a water grate early in April. When released, it was found to have a double tail Paul reckons that the second tail grew when the first was broken, with the new appendage developing from the area of the break. The second tail was a different colour and had an independent blood supply It is understood that although some lizards have the ability to grow a double tail it was most unusual. The animal appeared in good health and after one night of R & R was released the next day (Footnote, intrepid angler, Dick Richards claims he saw a similar species many years ago while fishing in a backwater of the Colo River near Sydney) |
