| Spotted Python |

Finally Paul Jones was contacted on his way home from SES training and as the snake was inside the house, he agreed to make the long trip out to Blaxland Creek so that the residents could happily go to sleep that night. The Phonie told Paul that a four wheel vehicle would be needed to access the house and Paul found the three kilometre driveway was barely navigable in his trusty four wheeler and had to try several times to get around some of the worst parts of the road into the property, wondering if he would even make it to the house! When he finally arrived and went into the lounge room he found a beautiful Spotted Python happily ensconced under the TV. Paul was delighted as the Spotted Python is not often seen in the Clarence Valley. It is a gentle Python, not at all aggressive and easily handled. They are one of the smaller Pythons, growing only just over a metre long. This turned out to be a two hour rescue and it was very late before Paul was able to get to bed himself, but well worth the effort to be able to relocate such a lovely snake. The Spotted Python has only been listed in the Grafton surrounds for several years and is usually found further north and north west of this area. They are nocturnal and semi-arboreal, found beneath bark, rocks and in rock crevices. |
